Being Barefoot…while Running

Can you run a 5k barefooted? I know what you’re thinking…how do you run a 5k barefooted? You’re thinking that would be horrible…you don’t have arch support, cushion for your feet or protection! Wrong…

Introducing Vibram Five Fingers! Vibram Five Fingers lets you run barefooted. They look like gloves for feet. I know you’re still wondering how this can be good for your feet…

The typical human foot is an anatomical marvel of evolution with 26 bones, 33 joints, 20 muscles, and hundreds of sensory receptors, tendons and ligaments. Like the rest of the body, to keep our feet healthy, they need to be stimulated and exercised.

Your feet need the exercise, and when you give your feet the exercise they need your feet will be stronger.  You’ll be able to support yourself more.  It’s a win win! You can buy Vibram Five Fingers either online or at Hudson Trail Outfitters.

Eaton Square at Arlington Ridge is less than 10 minutes away from Hudson Trail Outfitters. Check out Vibram Five Fingers!

Who needs the Gym???

When you have Eaton Square at Arlington Ridge’s brand new fitness center featuring state-of-the-art cardio and weight equipment! Seriously I’m not paying for a gym membership as long as I’m living at Eaton Square.

The fitness center has to be my favorite amenity at the community. After work everyday I’ll change into my exercise outfit (yes I have an exercise outfit) and I’ll head over to the gym. No need to get into the car, no need for a monthly membership. I can get into shape at home.

What’s your favorite amenity at Eaton Square at Arlington Ridge? No Gym Membership Needed

30 Days is Up!

Alexandra's Magical Fitness video Episode 1

It’s been 30 days since I’ve been working on Jillian Michaels “30 Day Shred” and I have seen results. I didn’t lose 30 pounds, but I lost 10 pounds. I didn’t change my diet drastically, but I was conscious of what I ate.  I also haven’t made it to routine 3, but I am working on it still. I figured if I’ve gone this far, I should continue to see what else could happen.

Some ideas I’ve had to improve my workouts:

  • Try to count the calories I take in (avoid my snacks)
  • Mix up the routines
  • Drink more water
  • Walk/jog more
  • Workout to music

It’s been a great journey with Jillian. My energy level has increased, I’ve toned up, and I’ve lost weight. I’m happy with my results.  Do you follow a strict regimen?

Still Working With Jillian

U.S. Marines count out push-ups.

I’ve moved up to routine 2 for Jillian Michaels. It’s a lot harder and focuses more on cardio/strength. We do plank push ups, more jumps, and harder ab workouts (the pain is back). The great thing is it goes a lot faster and I’m not bored anymore. I’m red in the face, sweat more than before, and feel a difference again.

I thought you had to stick with one routine for 30 days, but it’s actually when your ready to move up. I’ve cut my workout down to 5 days a week. It’s a little nicer and easier for me to do. Work, social life, and other activities make it hard to workout 7 days a week, but I am still staying strong. It’s almost been a month on this new lifestyle, and people tell me I look skinnier. I’ve avoided the scale and want to wait after 30 days (eliminate any ways of discouragement).Hopefully, this 30 day shred will pay off!

Has anyone tried it?

Remember when you were a kid and learned how to ride a bike? I love how bike friendly DC is, especially Crystal City. This city is known for their bike lanes and also summer bike events: Bike to Work Day, Bike DC, and the US Air Force Cycling Classic.

  • Bike to Work Day: May 21st ride your bike into work. Crystal City will have a pit stop at the Water Park for you to clean up before you go into the office.
  • Bike DC: May 23rd for the second annual 19 mile bike ride. Get a chance to bike and see the sites of DC.
  • U.S. Air Force Cycling Classic and Crystal Ride: Time for the cyclists to ride on June 13th for 3.5 hours without any car distractions!

Jillian Ad

I had a few more distractions last week, that set me a little behind from Jillian. I had an unexpected vacation and missed 4 days out my 7 day workout week. I was disappointed in myself, but I did a lot of walking over those 4 days to kind of catch up. Life constantly changes, and you need to learn to go with the flow.

Last night was the first time I completed Jillian full out without any breaks. I was  so excited and honestly the 20 minutes went by so quickly. I’ve noticed that I’ve needed to stretch more before and after the workout. The best part about my few days off was seeing my family. They shared with me how they could tell I lost weight and I looked great. It was more of a push to continue the workout cycle, than quit. I’ve been avoiding the scale, just to stay away from being disappointed. It’s important to keep going, especially for my readers! Let’s see if Jillian works….

How do you stay committed?

Who will take the lead for the Stanley Cup Playoffs? Right now the series is tied 1-1 for the Washington Capitals & Montreal Canadiens. Both are strong teams, but it’s an important game tonight. This is the 3rd game of the series, and the first team to win 4 is a step closer to the Stanley Cup!

Here’s the highlights of the last game, where the Caps evened up the series:

  • Ovechkin led the Caps to a victory last game!
  • Nicklas Backstrom netted a hat-trick!
  • John Carlson, a rookie defensemen, scored the overtime winner Saturday night! How bout that for beginner’s luck?

Who is watching the game tonight at 7pm? Will the Capitals take the lead?

Week 2 – Done!

Inspiration a'plenty!

Another week of Jillian’s 30 Day Shred completed. Woohoo! It’s a victory for me because I had the weekend off from a vacation, so Monday night was hard to start the workout again. I felt like I did on day 1 the next day, but after a few days it wasn’t bad.  It’s amazing what 2 days of not working out can do for you. Now, my momentum has picked back up and I’m no longer doing the “modify – easy version.”

My muscles have toned up and I’ve memorized the workout. It’s great to see results in so little time. Jillian’s 30 Day Shred is a challenge, but I encourage you to try it. Are you willing to try the 30 Day Shred?

Week 1 of Jillian Done!

It’s been a week since I started the Jillian Michaels “30 Day Shred”. So much has changed in such little time. My body has toned up and everyday my muscles are becoming less sore. My endurance has changed dramatically and I can complete the full workout without taking any breaks. Before this journey, I didn’t exercise and my eating habits were okay.

Midweek of this plan, I became extremely hungry. I purchased a lot of healthy snack foods: fruit, nuts, carrots, and unsweetened banana chips to snack on. I could not believe I ate so much. My body was breaking things down left and right. Energy level has increased and I look forward to this video. It’s 20 minutes of hard work, but it’s me time!
